Miss Jessica Holly is a native of Vicksburg who has dedicated most of her life to the children and families of this city. Educated in the VWSD, Holly attended Hinds Community College in Raymond, Ms and Mississippi College, where she majored in English Education. Having taught for a few years, Holly went back to MC and received her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and graduated Summa Cum Laude. After working 20 years with the VWSD, and working at the high school, elementary, and junior high levels, she felt that the junior high students needed the highest degree of support. Because of that need, Empower YOUniversity was born. Empower YOUniversity began as a mentoring and educational support program for middle school children; however, the urgency for mentors became so great that EY opened its doors to any student who needed support. In addition to Empower YOUniversity, Holly founded emPower 22:6, which will include some mentoring but will focus more on advocacy, consulting, and motivational speaking. Another one of Ms. Holly’s endeavors is with University Medical Center as an annual panelist for the Genetics Department. Ms. Holly has also sat on the Board of Directors for United Way, joined Junior Auxiliary, and volunteered many hours at the Warren County Children’s Shelter. Throughout her career, she has mentored a great deal of students, some of which have become honorary members of her family and are still active in her present life. Ms. Holly’s work has earned her several honors. Those include: The Vicksburg Post’s Top Twenty under Forty, the dedication of the Valhalla( an honor given to the person the senior class chooses as most impactful), the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Community Service Award and countless awards for her service in this city. Her greatest achievement has been locating a missing teen and bringing her back home. In Holly’s spare time she enjoys watching movies and spending time with her three year old daughter, Ahsah, and her dogs Sugar Baby and Teddy Bear.
